Family vacations have the potential to be disastrous, but they can also be the best times of everyone’s lives. The memories created on family vacations will last long after your children have grown up and moved out. If you really want the whole family to genuinely enjoy the trip, the destination you choose is the key. Here are the four best family vacation destinations in the U.S. that are sure to be a hit for all members of the family.
Walt Disney World
When you think of the quintessential family vacation, Disney World comes to mind, because it is. The “happiest place on Earth” makes for perhaps the best family vacation destination in the country, and it’s truly great for people of all ages. There is absolutely no shortage of things to do. Magic Kingdom and Epcot have amusement park rides, shows, characters, fireworks, and endless entertainment. Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach are great water parks. There’s Animal Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, and much more. The only downside to a Disney adventure is the cost, but there is a wide selection of hotels for every budget, discounts on ticket packages, and more.
The historical town of Williamsburg has entertainment for everyone, whether you’re a history buff or not. Actors portray American heroes like George Washington in a town that’s a full replica of colonial times, complete with thrilling battle reenactments and opportunities for kids to experience colonial life. Tour a plantation, visit Jamestown, or check out countless other fun historical experiences. Nearby is the gigantic water park Water Country USA and the awesome amusement park Busch Gardens. Just choose your vacation time wisely – Colonial Williamsburg involves a lot of walking, and temperatures can easily reach into the 100s in the summer.
Las Vegas, Nevada
When you think of family-friendly entertainment, Las Vegas doesn’t automatically spring to mind. But this city that’s known for its gambling, sex, and overall hedonism is actually an excellent place to vacation with kids of all ages. The hotel Circus Circus has an indoor theme park called Adventuredome. There is a Shark Reef at Mandalay Bay, Madame Tussauds Wax Museum, amazing shows like the Blue Man Group and Cirque du Soleil, Siegfried and Roy’s Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat, family restaurants like the Rainforest Cafe, and much more. You can also take a day trip to the nearby Grand Canyon and Hoover Dam.
Yellowstone National Park
Yellowstone is America’s first National Park, and it’s a great place for nature lovers and kids of all ages. Besides the beautiful and awe-inspiring landscapes, there’s activities like fishing, boating, horseback riding, roller skiing, and more. Check out the amazing geyser Old Faithful, which is a remnant from the active volcano that long-ago created Yellowstone. Explore the wilderness on guide-led hikes. You can camp out, or book a room at any of the great lodges nearby. Your kids even have the opportunity to become Junior Rangers. Even people who aren’t necessarily the outdoorsy type will love such a majestic and fun park.
